Lenovo has used IFA 2016 to deliver a stunning new Yoga two in one notebook that makes Microsoft’s Surface and Surface book and Apple’s iPad Pro look like yesterday’s technology.
The new 10.1-inch Yoga offering has three standout features, a touchscreen keyboard cover, that doubles as a drawing pad that can be laid flush against its screen, an add-on paper-like Create Pad to transfer written notes into the Yoga Book, and a Real Pen used to draw and write on both the cover screen and the Create Pad.
The new Yoga Book, is designed to seamlessly bridge touch, type, write and draw in “a new touchscreen form factor, purposely designed to meet the lifestyles of those we’ve identified as the ‘Touch Generation.'” Claims Lenovo executives.
Unlike the likes of Hewlett-Packard who have taken to designing gold and black “tizzy” looking PCs Lenovo is tipping millions into PC innovation to drive growth for example their new touch Halo Keyboard understands and adapts to the typing habits of the user, and their haptic technology is designed to reduce mistakes.
When the keyboard is turned off, the cover becomes a drawing pad. The Yoga Book’s touchscreen keyboard also covers doubles as a drawing pad.
Lenovo designers have designed the new two and one so that at the push of a button a backlight lights up the keys making them invisible. This instantly turns the keyboard into a Wacom enabled create pad.
Users can then combine a digitiser with Lenovo’s Note Saver app, this creates digital versions of anything written or doodled on it.
For customers who use the default "Automatic" updates: Your Surface Dock and your Surface device should already be up to date.
Your Surface Dock is automatically updated by Windows Update. If you haven't run Windows Update on your Surface in a while, try running it and install all available updates, including "optional" and "recommended" updates. If your Surface Dock does not update, go to the next section to learn how to manually update your Surface Dock. For more info, see Install Surface and Windows updates.
So what is the ideal tablet? Thin, sleek, a tablet where you can type, touch and write. And so after some years of planning, Lenovo has taken this ideal features into consideration and developed the Yoga Book.
The Yoga Book comes in the size like of a hardcover children's book, two panels connected by a hinge, the other panel being a full-touch tablet and the other panel that acts as a digital writing pad that also switches into a keyboard.
But what's more to the Yoga Book is that you can write using real ink and have it digitized. Lenovo just made a tablet on the go--and more.
This tablet comes in two versions: Android and Windows 10. The Android version sells for $499 while the Windows 10 version $50 more than the latter.
Now less than a week away from Apple’s ‘See you on the 7th’ iPhone 7 event, there’s a lot we know about the device and other product announcements Apple has planned for next week. A dual-camera system for iPhone, a new and improved Apple Watch 2 with GPS, new wireless headphones, and much more. Here’s what we expect to see at Apple’s iPhone event next week…
iPhone 7 & 7 Plus
Same design. iPhone 7 will mostly be the same physical design as iPhone 6s apart from repositioned antenna lines. As you can see in the image below, the antenna lines will be redirected along the edge of the device leaving a smooth backside of the device free of the antenna lines currently visible on the back of current iPhone models.
iOS 10. Currently in beta, you can expect an announcement for the public release of iOS 10 at the event, which means the new and improved Messages features alongside a very long list of other new features will arrive for all. I’ll let Jeff walk you through 75 of them in the video above.
Dual-camera system. One of the big hardware upgrades that Apple will surely highlight on stage is the dual-camera tech it’s expected to introduce with far better zoom capabilities. It looks like the new dual-camera could be limited to the larger 5.5-inch models, while one report claimed the 4.7-inch iPhone 7 models will get optical image stabilization, a feature previously limited to the larger 5.5-inch Plus models.
Redesigned Home button. We reported back in June that sources indicated Apple was working on a designed Home button, and since others have backed up our report that the new Home button with haptic feedback-like features could be included in the iPhone 7.
No headphone jack. Apple is removing the headphone jack and forcing you to use wireless or Lightning headphones or adapters.
32GB-256GB. It looks like most iPhone users will get a storage upgrade this cycle with several reports pointing to a 32GB base model and a new higher-capacity 256GB model on the high-end.
It’s a new Lenovo Yoga Tab! Specifically, the Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Plus, successor to the precisely one-year-old Yoga Tab 3 Pro, is (still) a 10-inch Android tablet, but unlike the Pro, which had high-end specs and features, the Tab 3 Plus offers a compelling price-to-performance ratio.
The Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Plus features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 with four Cortex-A52 cores, running a 1.8 GHz clock and four Crotex-A53 cores, running a 1.4 GHz clock (the Pro had an Intel Atom x5-Z8500 processor). It is equipped with an Adreno 510 GPU, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of memory storage (which can be expanded with microSD cards up to 128GB), and a USB Type-C connector.
The Yoga Tab 3 Plus has a WXQGA (2560 x 1600 pixels) resolution, and sports the familiar bottom cylinder, which houses a massive 9300mAh battery and enables a kickstand. Lenovo reps claim the battery provides 18 hours of juice, even watching movies in full resolution.
iPhone 7 dramatically improves the most important aspects of the iPhone experience. It introduces advanced new camera systems. The best performance and battery life ever in an iPhone. Immersive stereo speakers. The brightest, most colorful iPhone display. Splash and water resistance.1 And it looks every bit as powerful as it is. This is iPhone 7.

"Microsoft technology continues to transform industries of all kinds from healthcare to education to small businesses by putting real time data and insights in people’s hands when they need it most," he explained, stating the company's approach to working with the NFL was no different.
The change the tablet brought to teams when the partnership between Microsoft and the NFL started in 2014 was at once simple and drastic. It gave coaches and players the ability to quickly view images from their previous possession to make adjustments for their next drive.
Prior to the Surface tablets, teams relied on printouts of pictures, loaded into thick binders and brought to the sidelines. The move to digital is much like making any office environment paperless, except this one consists of millionaires smashes their bodies into one another and then looking at pictures of the carnage afterward.

'The all-new Fire HD 8 packs more battery life, more storage, faster performance, plus Alexa—all for less than $90
Mixed-use battery life is up to 12 hours from 8, and the base storage is doubled to 16 gigabytes.
The biggest change is that the tablet will have Alexa functionality.
That means that when users tap and hold the tablet's home button, they can ask the assistant for anything from weather reports to news queries, and also get the device do things like adjusting the lights or temperature on compatible smart-home devices
'We believe in a different approach to tablets—providing premium products at non-premium prices—and customers love it. In fact, we've seen Fire tablet sales more than double year-over-year as a result,' said Kevin Keith, General Manager, Fire Tablets.
Apple didn't mention the iPad once during its two hour iPhone 7 keynote today, but that hasn't stopped the company from updating the product line anyway.
Every iPad Apple sells will now include a minimum of 32GB of storage. Gone are the old 16GB models, which was a ridiculously small amount of space to begin with.
The iPad mini 2 is now only available in 32GB, getting rid of the 16GB version. The iPad mini 4 has also been simplified, getting rid of the 64GB option, meaning you'll have to choose between 32GB and 128GB.
This bump in storage is also coming alongside a price drop. The 128GB iPad mini now costs $100 less than it did previously.
iPad Pro 9.7 and iPad Pro 12.9 are also seeing a price cut, with the 128GB models dropping $50 and the 256GB models dropping $100. The price changes seem to only affect US customers for now.
The new Surface Pro 4 ads debuted on Thursday night during the Carolina Panthers-Denver Broncos NFL game. They represent yet another aspect of the partnership between Microsoft and the NFL when it comes to the tablet. In the commercial, Brown says having a powerful device like the Surface Pro 4 allows him to quickly go through all of the data he collects on each player he scouts.

There has been a lot of buzz around the rumoured and reported Surface Phone. Since the past few months, Microsoft is hinting at one line that has it all, laptops, tablets and phones. Folks over at MSMobile got nice info from Simon who has successfully managed to grab a screenshot of a leaked tweet. Microsoft Australia has tweeted about this but later the tweet was deleted as they didn’t want the news to spread across so early. In the tweet, it was also mentioned as soon, which means there is a possibility that the Surface Phone will be launched soon, mostly by the year end.
In the screenshot above, we can see Microsoft advertising a single lineup, obviously named Surface, featuring Surface Pro 4, the Surface Phone and Surface Book. In addition, description of the messages appeared short word Soon which could mean that the device will be presented later this year at the upcoming conference on Surface devices.
Microsoft is said to hold an event in October. What could the company be launching?
Microsoft Surface Pro 5 release date
A source has learned about Microsoft's plan to hold an event in October. It will showcase new device called Project Rio. However, according to Neowin, Microsoft is unlikely to unveil new device in the upcoming month - not even a Surface Pro 5. It is reported that the event will present an all-in-one PC which is currently on final stage of development.
It is worth noting that the rumored Kaby Lake set to be placed in the hybrid laptop, won't make any appearance until the end of 2016. And the Redstone 2 will not arrive till 2017. This could mean that we won't be seeing Microsoft Surface Pro 5 any time this year.
Microsoft Surface Pro 5 rumored specs
However, there is still hope that Microsoft would at least give the viewers a clue on the next gen of Surface Pro. Or even better, announce the device before it is available for public in 2017. For the record, Microsoft unveiled Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book in October 2015. Judging from the past event, it would be a perfect schedule to launch a refreshed device next month.
What is "digital ink"? Digital ink consists of using an active pen with a battery and a chip that interacts with a digitizer component on the device's screen. The result is an experience that feels like true pen on paper in terms of accuracy, sensitivity and latency. A normal touch-screen tablet only allows for 'finger painting' type inking.
This type of data capturing is beneficial for enterprise applications in that it elimates the use of paper leading to improvements in productivity and efficiency.
But how would a mobile worker utilize digital inking in the field? Here are the top uses:
This list just touches on the capabilities of a tablet that is equipped with a digitzer pen. Admittedly, digital inking is not for everyone, but done correctly and it can dramatically improve your customer service along with productivity in the field.
Microsoft Store is now offering $150 gift code with select Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book devices. This offer is valid from today to October 1, 2016, while supplies last. You will get the promo code when you purchase Surface Pro 4 i5 256GB or Surface Book 256GB 8GB dGPU devices. This $150 Promo code expires 9/19/2017, and must be redeemed before that date.
About Surface Pro 4,
Surface Pro 4 runs all the desktop software you rely on, while being lighter than ever starting at 1.69 pounds. The 12.3-inch PixelSense display has extremely high contrast and low glare. Go from laptop to tablet with the multi-position Kickstand and keyboard. And jot down notes and ideas with Surface Pen and improved Type Cover. When you need to connect to other devices and accessories, Surface Pro 4 has advanced wireless capabilities and all the ports you need.
The Lenovo Miix 510 is a 12.2 inch tablet with a full HD display, a built-in kickstand, and a starting price of $600. And that price includes a detachable keyboard.
Microsoft’s Surface Pro tablets have prices that start at $799, and the keyboard is sold separately. Microsoft does include a digital pen though, while Lenovo will sell that separately as an optional accessory.
Lenovo unveiled the Miix 510 at IFA in Berlin in August, and I got a chance to play with one for a few minutes at an event in New York last week.
Much like the Acer Switch Alpha 12 I reviewed this summer, the Miix 510 features a 12 inch display, a built-in kickstand, and a reasonably affordable price tag.
But the Acer tablet has a higher-resolution display, a fanless design, and mediocre battery life. I can’t say anything about the battery life from Lenovo’s tablet yet, but I can say that the 2 pound tablet feels solid, but compact when held in one hand, has plenty of vents to help keep things cool (along with a fan in the case), and has a pretty nice little kickstand in the back, which allows you to prop up the tablet at nearly any angle.
The stand is based on the same watchband-style design the company uses for some of its Yoga-branded devices like the new Lenovo Yoga Book features a 1920 x 1200 pixel display, a USB 3.0 Type-C port which is also used for charging the Miix 510, and two full-sized USB 3.0 ports and a headset jack.
Huawei is mostly known for smartphones -- not so much in the U.S., but the company has gained a significant amount of the market in other regions. The Matebook is one of Huawei's first attempts at offering a hybrid tablet aimed at business users. It's an attractive and well-made device, but how well does the Matebook compete with the current enterprise favorite, the Surface Pro 4?
Tech enthusiasts have a lot to expect from the Surface Pro 5, especially that it is supposed to improve on the weaknesses of its predecessor. International Business Times reported that the Surface Pro 5 is going to have longer battery life unlike the Surface Pro 4. To note, the Surface Pro 4 is one of the most powerful devices from Microsoft in recent years, but the users could not help but notice its very limited battery capacity.
The most likely reason behind the Surface Pro 4's shortened battery life is the performance of its processor, Intel Skylake. It is rumored that Microsoft might be skipping on the Skylake chipset and use Intel's next generation of processor. The users may see the Surface Pro 5 powered by the Intel Kaby Lake processor. However, people may have to wait until the first quarter of 2017 as the Kaby Lake chipsets needed by Microsoft to create the Surface Pro 5 have not yet been shipped. If Microsoft is really going to push through with the October unveiling of the Surface Pro 5, then the device may instead pack with the Skylake processor.
Other rumored specs of the Surface Pro 5 include a 4K screen resolution, making it among today's few devices sporting UHD display. It is also expected to have PixelSense display panel and 21-inch, 24-inch and 27-inch screen options. Its RAM capacity is reported to go up to 16GB.
Owners of the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 with an integrated LG power pack have complained of a problem that prevents the tablet/laptop hybrid device from charging. It's a nasty bug to deal with, as it will prevent owners from using the device while not connected to a power outlet. With the battery fully discharged, the device will shut down instantly, without saving any of the work you've done.
Microsoft is yet to issue an official statement on the matter. So far, it has only told a moderator on its Community forum that the company is aware of the problem. Still, last month Microsoft did patch a bug that had devices with a Simplo cell misreport their battery capacity. MS is probably working on resolving the issue as we speak.
If you're in the market for a new tablet but aren't sure what to buy, then you can't go wrong with the Microsoft Surface Pro 4, a true 2-in-1 hybrid tablet that feels like a tablet most of the time, with the added bonus of becoming a laptop when/if you need it. Featuring a premium magnesium body, and a gorgeous 12.1-inch screen, you definitely won't regret getting one of these.
Bottom-line: For the best Windows 10 tablet out there, check out the Microsoft Surface Pro 4.
One more thing: If you're looking for a tablet that's purely a tablet, the Surface Pro 4 is still a great choice. The type cover is an optional extra, so buying the Surface Pro 4 standalone means you'll be getting a full-on tablet.
At the high end you can have a Surface Pro 4 with a 1TB SSD and a Skylake Intel Core i7 processor and 16GB of RAM. Impressive by any stretch.
But with that comes a price to pay. Literally. The Surface Pro 4 is expensive, starting at $799, and can go way above $2,000 at the top. But it isn't just a tablet. It's a tablet, a laptop, with the optional docking station it can even become your desktop. One device for all.
Microsoft Corporation appears to be working on the Surface Pro 5 featuring a 4K display and Intel’s new Kaby Lake processors. Earlier, reports suggested that the tech titan will launch the 2-in-1 device before the end of 2016. But latest rumors claim that the company is planning to announce the Surface Pro 5 during the Windows 10 Devices event in October. Microsoft remains silent about the super laptop and has not made any official statement yet.
Rumors also suggest that the Surface Pen, which comes with Surface Pro tablets, will feature a rechargeable battery that charges wirelessly when magnetically attached to the tablet.
Additionally, the Surface Pro 5 is expected to feature 4K resolution, PixelSense display panel, and sport a 16GB RAM with Surface AIO graphics unit. Rumors claim that the device will feature a 16MP rear and 8MP front camera. In addition to a 4K model, the Surface Pro 5 is rumored to come with a 2K screen.
Microsoft has released another ad for the Surface Pro 4, this time leaning heavily on its relationship with the NFL. In the ad, which is set to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It", we get a peek at how the Surface Pro 4 helps NFL stars all across the league prepare for game day. Take a look at the ad below:
The Surface Enterprise Initiative, introduced in September 2015, allows companies like HP and Dell to sell Surface PCs alongside additional support and other services such as industry-specific applications. The scheme also makes it easier for larger organisations to buy from a single company and have the devices deployed in more than one country.
Since its launch, Microsoft has added application development deals with IBM and Booz Allen Hamilton to the programme, and says it now has 10,000 companies selling Surface.
Over the past several years, speculation has run rampant that Apple intends to eventually replace chips from microprocessor giant Intel inside its Mac products with homegrown ARM Holdings-compatible microprocessors.
For a while, it seemed there was no immediate threat to Intel's Mac business, given the relatively large performance deltas between Intel's notebook processors and Apple's own A-series processors used in both the iPhone and the iPad. However, beginning with the A9 and A9X chips launched about a year ago and continuing on with the recently released A10 and the soon-to-be-launched A10X, it's clear that Apple's engineering teams are now able to deliver offerings that are truly competitive with Intel's low-power notebook processors.
In other words, the argument that Apple's chips aren't powerful enough no longer appears to hold water. In that context, it's worth reconsidering whether Apple will ultimately boot Intel from the Mac line of products
Microsoft’s Surface Book was awarded “Notebook of the Year” at the prestigious UK T3 Awards, often called the “Oscars of Tech.”
Winners are decided by T3 readers and closely scrutinised by an expert panel of tech judges – it is not a beauty parade as many awards are. The phone of the year requires it to be a flagship class and have been released in the 2015-16 financial year. The shortlist included
Dell XPS 12Lenovo Yoga 900S
HP Spectre x360
Acer Aspire Switch 12 S
Microsoft Surface Book
The judges said, “A lot of eyebrows were raised, and a lot of jaws hit the floor when Microsoft launched its first own-brand laptop, and the Surface Book has impressed us enough since then to earn the Laptop of the Year Award. You can tell that this is Microsoft's attempt to show its hardware partners how it should be done in the Windows 10 era – that clever hinge, that detachable screen... power and portability together in one complete computer. Yes, there were issues with it, but it was a brave step forward by the Redmond company, and we're already excited about Surface Book 2."
The Tablet PC is a fully functioning mobile computer that runs Windows XP, Tablet PC Edition which includes new, advanced handwriting and speech recognition capabilities that enable the creation, storage, and transmission of handwritten notes and voice input. Tablet PCs come in three styles, Convertible, Slate and Hybrid.
